Wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but things are getting intense in the world.

Really intense!

There is so much seriousness and heaviness around us.

It’sa great day forsomething that will make us SMILE!

I thought the wit and wisdom of The Peanuts Gang might make for a fun and positive post today.

Wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

Just a bit of information about their creator, Charles Schultz:

“Schulz’s understated genius lay in his ability to keep his well-known and comfortable characters fresh enough to attract new readers while keeping his current audience coming back for more.

His humor was at times observational, wry, sarcastic, nostalgic, bittersweet, silly, and melancholy, with occasional flights of fancy and suspension of reality thrown in from time to time.

When Schulz announced his retirement in December 1999, thePeanuts comic strip was syndicated in over 2,600 newspapers worldwide, with book collections translated into over 25 languages.

He has been awarded the highest honors from his fellow cartoonists, received Emmy Awards for his animated specials, been recognized and lauded by the U.S. and foreign governments, had NASA spacecraft named after his characters, and inspired a concert performance at Carnegie Hall.

And still today, thePeanutsGang continues to entertain and inspire the young and the young at heart.” (https://schulzmuseum.org/about-the-man/schulz-biography/)

Although there has been some debate about Schultz’s faith and beliefs, his work carries some amazing spiritual undertones.

I thought it might be fun to take some of his cartoons and give themmore obvious and intentional spiritual significance.

So, here are some cartoons and great words of scripture to encourage you.

Here is wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters:

The first bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.

Instead, be kind to each other, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”

Ephesians 4:32, NLT

The second bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

“So we’re not giving up.

How could we?

Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making a new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.

These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us.There’s far more here than meets the eye.

The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18, MSG

So we’re not giving up. How could we! 2 Cor. 4:16 Share on X

The third bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

‘Therefore, I tell you, do not worryabout your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow.

They do not labor or spin.Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendorwas dressed like one of these.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you-you of little faith?

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?”‘

Matthew 6:25-32, NIV

Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Matthew 6 Share on X

The fourth bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?
My help comes from theLord,
the Maker of heavenand earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watchesover Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

TheLordwatches overyou—
theLordis your shade at your right hand;
the sunwill not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

TheLordwill keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
theLordwill watch over your coming and go
both now and forevermore.”

(Psalm 121:1-8, NIV)

The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and go both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:8 Share on X

For I know the plansI have for you,” declares theLord, “plans to prosperyou and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11, NIV

“Afriendloves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”

(Proverbs 17:17)

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. Proverbs 17:7 Share on X

The fifth bit of wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.

If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm.

But how can one be warm alone?

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.

Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, NLT

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. Eccl. 4:12 Share on X

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God?

They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!”

Psalm 139:13-18

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. Psalm 139 Share on X

“Do nothingfromselfishness orempty conceit, but with humility of mindregard one another as more important than yourselves;do notmerelylook out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Have this attitudein yourselves which was also inChrist Jesus,”

Philippians 2:3-5

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.”

Romans 15:5

“Let usnotbecome weary indoing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if wedonotgiveup.”

Galatians 6:9

“We have all these great people around us as examples.

Their lives tell us what faith means.

So we, too, should run the race that is before us and never quit.

We should remove from our lives anything that would slow us down and the sin that so often makes us fall.”

Hebrews 12:1, ERV

Let us not become weary in doing good. Gal. 6:9 Share on X

“Finally, allof you beof one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, betenderhearted, becourteous;”

1 Peter 3:8, NKJV

And, a couple of Peanuts just for fun…

So, what did you think of the Wisdom from the Peanuts Cartoon Characters?

Could you imagine that some of those Bible verses (or the principles from them) led to some of those cartoons??

It is possible.

Did you think of some other great verses that could have been added to one or more of the cartoons? (I’d love to hear your ideas.)

My prayeris that you and I will remember to ALWAYS be on the lookout for encouraging words from heaven.

They can come in the form of music, teachers, mail or email, a preacher, the radio, a good word from a friend, a sign on a marquee, or maybe even from a cartoon.
