The Lazy Tiger Comes to Life through PCAP Partnership - Partner Community Capital (3)

Ryan Appleton took a sabbatical from his corporate job, traveling through South America and dreaming of a more fulfilling career path. During his travels, he stayed at various hostels and was struck by the profound impact a good hostel could have on a traveler’s experience. The vibrant communities, the shared stories, and the unforgettable connections inspired him.

“I met so many great people and realized the impact a good hostel could have on one’s time in a specific place,” Appleton said. This epiphany planted the seed for the Lazy Tiger Hostel, a place where travelers could find not just a bed, but a community.

Turning this dream into a reality was no small feat, especially with the unforeseen challenge of a global pandemic. Enter Partner Community Capital (PCAP). Appleton’s journey with PCAP began with Erika McGilley, Chief Lending Officer, who immediately understood his vision for the Lazy Tiger Hostel.

“Erika understood the vision from the start. It’s very refreshing to see lending options for startups and I’m very grateful for my partnership with PCAP,” Appleton shared.

PCAP’s support was instrumental in bringing the Lazy Tiger Hostel to life, providing not just financial backing but also patience and understanding through uncertain times.

“From our first meeting, it was clear that Ryan had a unique vision for creating a community-centered hostel that would serve not only travelers but also the local Asheville community. At PCAP, we strive to support innovative projects like the Lazy Tiger Hostel that bring people together and drive positive change,” McGilley said.

The Lazy Tiger Hostel has already started to make its mark on the Asheville community. Appleton has begun to build his team, currently employing one staff member, and aims to expand as the business grows. Beyond job creation, the hostel offers an affordable alternative for travelers, making Asheville accessible to a broader audience.

“I’m offering an option for a different type of traveler to experience Asheville without having to spend their entire vacation budget on a hotel room,” Appleton explains. This approach not only benefits travelers but also fosters a more inclusive community.

Appleton is committed to ensuring every guest’s stay in Asheville is memorable, creating a space where people from all walks of life can connect and share experiences.

“Seeing the Lazy Tiger Hostel come to life and start to make an impact in Asheville is incredibly rewarding. It exemplifies the kind of entrepreneurial spirit and community focus that PCAP aims to support,” McGilley said.

Appleton’s journey from corporate job to hostel owner is a testament to the power of vision, perseverance, and the right support. With the help of PCAP, Appleton was able to turn his dream into a thriving business that not only benefits him but also the wider Asheville community. The Lazy Tiger Hostel shines as an example of what can be achieved when passion meets support, offering travelers a unique and welcoming experience in the heart of Asheville.
