Logic - ULTRA 85

Aight, listen up, everybody. It’s ya boy Dondi White, the top dawg in the review game, the illest since sliced bread, His Majesty the Critic, and all that nonsense. Yo, Logic just dropped an album, and we’re about to dive in. Y'all probably know Logic as the rapper who’s kinda like Tom Holland doing hip-hop or maybe that mixed dude who got caught up in a mess over whether he's too mixed to say the n-word. However you know him, he’s been around. Sometimes he’s tight, sometimes he’s trash. He even had that world’s fastest rapper title for a minute, but someone snatched that crown already. Hopefully, this joint is fire, but honestly, I ain’t expectin’ much. Let's see what's good.

Twenty tracks? Man, what’s with these long-ass albums, for real.

Paul Rodriguez

Aight, so this joint starts off soft. He's talkin’. Nah, this ain’t Logic. Oh, now Logic’s spittin’ again. But yo, the mix on this is wack. And he’s straight up jackin’ someone’s flow here. It sounds tight, but I swear I’ve heard this exact flow before. Bet I’ll remember long after this review’s done. Oh snap! It just clicked—he’s bitin' Souls of Mischief’s flow.

Now he’s slippin’ off beat. Yikes. This took a mad wack turn. Finally, he’s back on beat, but dude keeps fallin' off. We’ll let it slide, but yo, the mix is straight trash. His DJ or producer needs to catch some heat for this.

He’s shoutin' out random rappers. “This one's for Kanye when he ain’t wildin' out.” Yo, that’s funny, considering Kanye’s wildin’ out in the news again.

Mission Control

Aight, this beat’s kinda fire. I’m vibin’. The rhyme scheme’s basic, but he’s tryna pass it off as lyrical. Don’t get it twisted—it’s the same rhyme the whole track. But he’s flowin’ better, and the production stepped up.

Deja Vu

Now he’s talkin’ about his n-word usage. Interesting. He was spittin’ nice, but then the rhymes fell off. I’m seein’ a lotta the same rhyme schemes, though. There’s a sample from JID’s “Off Deez” that hits just right. This one sounds dope. Logic’s stepped up his game heavy. This is real solid. Plus, he ain’t bitin’ no more flows. Props to that.

Glorious Ultra Panavision

This is a skit. It’s cool, nice lil’ story.

Fear

Soft beat. It’s poppy, but it’s aight. Some of these lyrics don’t make sense, but I’m feelin’ his flow. He’s spittin’ fast. The lyrics are aight, but not as strong as the earlier tracks.

Now he’s singin’? Aight, this just went full pop. Damn.

The skit’s cool. But it’s pushin’ that BS that there’s no objective truth in music. Nah, sometimes music’s just straight-up garbage. Sorry, but that “it’s all subjective” stuff is wrong. If you believe that, go play Ice Spice’s album from this year and try tellin' yourself that ain't wack garbage.

Favela

This beat’s soft, but okay. The rhymes are kinda corny, though. Hope he didn’t blow all his heat in the first half, but it’s possible. Now he’s pickin’ it up. This is tight. Some lines are reachin’, though. Example:

“I keep being real like Cypress Hill”

“Like five plus two, you’re weak”

It’s decent. I’d prefer a better beat and fewer weak puns.

Gardens III

This kicks off with a chopped and twisted sample. Feels like it’s from an early 2000s rap joint? Logic’s spittin', but his voice is throwin’ off the lyrics. And the mix is off again. Now the beat suddenly got better. The rappin’ is tight. Logic’s really upped his game. This is goin’ head-to-head with Denzel’s album, for real.

Ghost in the Machine

This one’s startin’ off nice. The beat’s on point.

Okay, Logic’s snappin’. This album’s solid. He’s goin' toe-to-toe with Denzel. I’m diggin’ this. The concept’s strong, and the spittin’ is too.

He’s singin’ again. Damn. Just gimme bars, bruh. He’s back to rappin’. Bet he saw me typin’ that complaint. This is fire. I’m really feelin’ the nostalgia here. Damn.

Innerstellar

Some random chick singin’. He’s rappin’ again. This one’s a deep self-analysis track. I’m diggin’ it—it’s mad poetic. This is so good. I’m sittin’ here grinnin’ like crazy. This is dope.

In Retrospect

Guitar again? Aight… now he’s singin’. This sounds like some 1950s vibe, which I know Logic loves, especially Sinatra. This beat is fire, hope he rides it. Oh, it switched up. The rhyme scheme is insane.

Wow, this might be the deepest and most complex rhyme scheme I’ve heard all year. This joint slaps. I ain’t gonna spoil it for y’all. Go peep it. Logic’s on fire.

He bodied this. Cop this tape. Now. That’s an order.

44ever

Yo, he’s spittin’ flames here. This is crazy. How’d he get this nice? Dippin’ from the industry did him good. This is raw talent. He’s murkin’ this album!!! I’m hyped right now. Damn, it just cut off. He stopped the track right in the middle of the hottest verse of the year. Damn it.

LOVE ME

This beat’s different. It’s solid. The production’s a bit too cooked, though, and the lyrics aren’t clear enough.

The beat switched up, and he’s spittin’ fire again. This one’s not like the others, and that’s a good thing. This is tight. I’m lovin’ this flow. Dude’s got talent.

Planet Death

This is a skit, so we ain’t reviewin’ it, but it’s cool.

Oh snap. He played me! Thought this was a real fight! They’re just playin’ video games. I got bamboozled, and I love it.

Teleport

Another dope track. That buzzin’ sound is hilarious. He’s killin’ it. How’d he go from two mid tracks to this?! This is flames. The whole song’s lyrical rap with substance and a message!!! Real hip-hop is back, baby!!!

Chess

This is a skit. I’m a big fan of chess myself.

ANTIDOTE

Uh-oh. We’re singin’ here. He better switch and go hard. This Zelooperez dude is on here, and he’s aight but doesn’t spit as well as Logic. He’s decent, though.

Now Logic’s back to rappin’. It’s flames! This dude...he’s made the album of the year. Hard to top this.

The hook’s okay, nothin’ too crazy, but it ain’t bad.

Once upon a time in Hollywood

This one’s startin’ off nice. He’s already killin’ it. The movie references are on point.

This is fire. I’m lovin’ it. This takes me back, real nostalgic vibes. I’m diggin’ this so much. Feels like I’m a kid again, discoverin’ hidden gems. This is straight fire.

Peace, Love, And Positivity

This starts off slow. He’s spittin’ so nice. How’s this dude doin’ this? How?? This sounds like Del, Nas, or maybe Jeru. The rhymes are insane. Ain’t nobody doin’ it better right now.

This is a dope look into this man’s mind. Real poetic.

City in the Stars

This one’s pretty good. Not feelin’ the singin’ rap here, but it’s aight. Gotta admit, it’s nice how he can switch up to singin’ like this.

Oh snap, now he’s back to rappin’, and he’s straight killin’ it. I probably won’t be runnin’ this track back, but these rhymes and flows are crazy.

Beats - 8/10

Thank You For Believing in Me

This closing track kicks off solid. I’m actually bummed this album’s wrappin’ up. I want more, for real!

He’s mixin’ in some singin’ and spittin’, but this joint is all about good vibes, so it’s cool. Yo, I’m actually lettin’ a rapper slide for singin’. That’s wild. The hook is fire—like, seriously fire.

Best song: “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood”

Worst song: “Fear”

Favorite song: ???

Man, pickin’ a favorite track here is tough. Ain’t a single wack joint on this album. We started off shaky, then took off into the stratosphere and straight up murked it. Logic absolutely bodied this album. The beats slap, the mix is on point (mostly), the samples are fire, the lyrics hit hard, the themes are deep—even the album cover’s on another level. Go cop this. Cop the tape now. Get that train, get a whip, hell, even grab a wheelbarrow, and BUY THE ULTRA 85 TAPE. Mark my words—this one’s gonna be a classic in thirty years. Trust me.
