Yum!Casey’s General Store is known for their tasty breakfast pizzas. Now you can make a copycat version of Casey’s Breakfast Pizza with this recipe.
I’m from Iowa and in Iowa – Casey’s Breakfast Pizza is GOLD!! It’s what you do every weekend – you stop at Casey’s before you go to the game, before you go hunting, before you go boating, before you do ANYTHING – you get breakfast pizza at Casey’s!!
You can get your breakfast pizza with sausagegravy or nacho cheese – and then yummy toppings like breakfast sausage, savory baconor veggies!
Plus they havedifferent types of cheeseon top too! It’s legendary and delicious! Take it out of theoven and dig in to all that gooey melted cheese!
If you need a review of Casey’s sausage gravy breakfast pizza – here you go – it’s awesome!!! All of their pizza is so good! You might not expect it from a little gas station – but their specialty is donuts and pizza. Yum! All homemade! (That photo is an authentic slice from Marion, Iowa!)
Did you know that 1/3 of the nation’s pork is grown in Iowa? I know – I live in Cincinnati now – and we call ourselves “Porkopolis” – but who we kiddin? That’s Iowa baby!!! Corn, beans and pigs. It’s how we do!
What’s on Casey’s iconic Breakfast Pizza?
If you check out the breakfast menu at Casey’s – you’ll see they have 3 kinds of breakfast pizza with different flavorsto choose from:
- sausage
- bacon
- veggies (peppers & onions)
For the pizza“sauce”, you can choose either sausage gravy or cheese sauce.
Then you pile on your toppings:
- scrambled eggs
- bacon– when making this at home, undercook the bacona little because it will cook more in theoven
- sausage
- veggies like peppersand onions
- mozzarella and cheddar cheese
At Casey’s you can call in and order a whole breakfast pizza – but most of the time – you just go in and grab a piece because it’s already made. Yummy!
I like making it at home because I can customize every aspect of my pizza – whether I want cheese or gravy, sausage or bacon, veggies or none – it’s all what I want!
How to make breakfast pizza with eggs?
This recipe for breakfast pizzais super easy and doesn’t take much time.
- First, I use a premadepizza dough crust– it’s just too easy not to – and this recipeis about the toppings!
- Then you prep your toppings:scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. (I bake my scrambled eggs in the oven or air fryer.)
- For the sauce, you can use either sausagegravyor cheese sauce – I tried both and they’re both delicious.
- I made a bacon pizza with sausage gravy and a sausage pizza with cheese sauce – so good!
- After you top the dough with your sauce – layerthe toppings on your crust.
- After your pizzasare topped, bake them in the ovenor air fryer until the cheese melts!
How can I tell if my sausageis cooked enough?
A lot of folks question – when is pork done?! If you’re cooking ground pork or sausage crumbles – it should be 160 degrees – but most other cuts are done at 145 degrees! Here’s an easy to check chart for cooking temps for pork!
This is my sausage and scrambled egg breakfast pizza! Looks good – right? My bestie sent me the photo of the Casey’s pizza to make sure mine looked just right – I think I did a pretty good job!
And while this recipe is born in Iowa, I’ve been to pork farms here in Ohio! I love going for visits – I learned so much from Uncle Squeals and I get to see piglets. Come on – that’s too cute!
Can I make breakfast pizza the night before?
Sure! Because you’re mainly just putting these items together – you can definitely make it the night before. If you’re using a premade crust– it’s not going to absorb the sauce. If you’re making fromscratch dough, you’ll probably want to have the dough separate until ready tobake.
Recipes to use for your Breakfast Pizza
- Simple Sausage Gravy from Scratch – this is a great sauce for the pizza!
- Baked Scrambled Eggs – easy way to make the eggs for your pizza!
- Flourless Cheese Sauce – so cheesy and creamy!

Casey’s Breakfast Pizza
Casey’s Breakfast Pizza is an Iowa staple. Every time I go home – I make sure to stop at least once for a slice or two! You can get nacho cheese or sausage gravy breakfast pizza! So tasty!

I would love to get the copycat Taco Pizza if you have it.
Kevin says
Use whatever dough you use for pizza. 18oz of dough will make a large pizza.
Mix together refried beans & chunky salsa. Now add a tiny bit of water to the refried beans to loosen them up. Spread on unbaked crust. Add cooked beef and bake 10 minutes. After cooking, add cut up tomato, Onion, lettuce (dependant on what you like). Sprinkle mixture of cheddar and mozz cheese. Crush up taco dorito and spread on top. Taco sauce on the side.

I lived in Iowa for 4 years. Casey's pizza and donuts are 2nd to none!
I don't eat much meat or dairy anymore, but, dang, that looks good.
I used to make breakfast pizza a lot, and be lying if I said I didn't miss it. But, I can't stand to watch one more video of animals being tortured on farms and know that I'm contributing to that.Reply
FoodHussy says
I'm sorry you've had that experience – I have visited many farms in Iowa and Ohio – and have never seen anything but wonderful care of animals. You should check out my post with Uncle Squeals – I visited his pig farm and felt 100% comfortable with everything. thefoodhussy.com/2017/01/food-hussy-my-visit-with-uncle-squeals.html

Any way I could bake in a 9×13 then bring to work for my team for a Christmas breakfast?? I have a decently long commute but could reheat in a microwave if needed. Or, I do have a casserole carry bag, too. Main concern is the 9/13 or at least something that would travel well?
Reply
FoodHussy says
Definitely! Especially if you're using a pizza crust that you make yourself – and spread in the pan – or even a roll out crust – no problem at all!!!!

so I want to use this dough, its not a premade crust, weisenberger.com/Weisenberger_Pizza_Crust_Mix_p/4105.5.htm
should I just follow their directions for baking using your toppings?
Their directions say bake at 500 lowest rack 10 min till golden brown and toppings are hot.Reply

Yup!

So do I need to cook the scrambled egg before adding it? Or just beat eggs together and pour onto crust?

Cook the eggs first! 🙂

I made this!! Instead of pizza crust I used the biscuits that come in the can. Smashed them down to make a crust. Sooooo good!!

I am a mom of 4 boys. Needless to say they keep me very busy. Have you ever tried o freeze this? Do you think it would hold well?
Reply
FoodHussy says
I have not – but I think you could! If you’re using a pre-made crust like a boboli – you definitely could – i would be sure it’s covered tightly with plastic wrap, etc. you could also par-bake it – like maybe half way – that way you can thaw it and bake it the rest of the way

Hello. I’m writing from Easton, MD. Can you believe I only had my introduction to breakfast pizza this past weekend at a little general store located in Lamoine, ME? It was delicious! Where has it been all my life — do I live under a rock?! Now, planning a girlfriends weekend in Ocean City, MD, I would like to make and serve this “new” recipe. You mention this can be made a night before. Can the entire pizza be assembled and then just bake it the next day as per regular recipe?
Enjoyed reading your comments about having this staple in your home state of Iowa. Us Marylanders are way behind!Reply
FoodHussy says
Yeah – if you’re using a premade crust (like a Boboli) – you could make it up and then put it in the fridge. Baking will probably take a little longer because your ingredients will be cold (eggs/sausage). Glad you’re going to try it!!!!
Jennifer says
What is the best brand of premade cheese sauce to use to get it as close to the original as possible? We lived in Iowa for 3 years and absolutely love their breakfast pizza.
Reply
FoodHussy says
It depends on your casey’s – if they used sausage gravy – i would use bob evans or make my own. for the cheese sauce – they use a canned nacho cheese sauce – i use Rico’s – https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ricos-Gourmet-Nacho-Cheddar-Cheese-Sauce-15-0-OZ/10452386
Sues says
I also use the potato chip cheese dip.
Matt says
I have some premade crusts that are frozen. Do they need to be thawed or pile stuff on and bake frozen?
Reply
FoodHussy says
I would probably thaw part-way at least
Ingrid says
What kind of pizza crust did you use?
Reply
FoodHussy says
I just used a premade store bought – i keep trying different ones to see if i can find one i like!
Joy says
Can’t wait to try this! Is the pizza dough supposed to be cooked before you put the toppings on?
Reply
FoodHussy says
It depends on what kind of crust you’re using but probably not. I used a pre-cooked premade type crust for these recipes – but i’ve also used a pre-made pizza dough I just follow whatever directions are on the package. I haven’t made my own dough yet!
Kelsey T says
What brand of cheese sauce do you use? Miss me some Casey’s breakfast pizza!!! I live in Virginia now… way too far!!

I used Rico’s Nacho Cheese sauce – but you could use something like this nacho cheese sauce or even a Velveeta cheese sauce – i like a little zing!

Hi,
Do you cook your bacon and sausage before placing on the crust?Reply
FoodHussy says
Yes – it’s noted in the ingredients they should be cooked. Feel free to undercook them a bit so they don’t get too overdone when you bake the pizza.

I have so missed Casey’s breakfast pizza! Being a Midwesterner who grew up on Casey’s pizza on Friday nights and either a Casey’s breakfast pizza or donut on a Saturday morning, I have missed a taste of home. This recipe totally hit the spot!
I didn’t have pizza dough laying around, so the Stone fire Mini naan’s laying around worked well for the pizza crust. My 3.5 year old said it was “amazing.”Reply
FoodHussy says
use those mini naan all the time for pizza! and yes – it’s a perfect taste of home!

Casey’s breakfast pizza is the best! We live about an hour away from the nearest one in illinois to us but it’s worth the drive! I never thought to just try to make it myself because I just didn’t think I could come close to the flavor of Casey’s. I’m definitely going to give this a try though. I wish they would build a Casey’s closer to us but since that’s just a dream lol I’m gonna give this a shot. Thank you for reminding me of this pizza!Reply

They’re starting to open new locations – we just got a couple here in Cincinnati!!!

I’ve made this for a few years. I used to work at Casey’s and I miss the breakfast pizza. I use Frito Lay cheese on the crust then either sausage or bacon and eggs. Sooooo good!

Yes – you could – i would freeze before you bake – and would recommend using the cheese sauce vs the gravy

Casey’s Pizza is just the best, breakfast pizza to. I always go with the cheese base! From Missouri here,, close to IA.Reply

Does the cheese sauce go directly from the can condensed, or does it need to be thinned with water before spreading on dough?

If using can – straight from can – don’t thin!

Made the cheese sauce pizza this morning, used “Sally’s Baking Addiction” pizza dough for beginners (had some in the freezer) and your flourless cheese sauce. It was delicious! Definitely will make again.Reply

that’s awesome!!! love Sally’s recipes too!

I had some extra flour tortillas. I heated some oil and cooked them the day before and put in the fridge. The next day I made one with gravy I make for biscuits. cooked some scrambled eggs. cooked pork sausage. The first one had gravy, scrambled eggs, pork sausage, and mozzarella cheese. For the second one, I used nacho cheese sauce (from sams) , scrambled eggs, port sausage, and 4 cheese. I baked them in a 425 oven for 5 minutes. both were delicious, I did like the nacho cheese one betterReply
Eli says
I used to work at Casey’s so I will let you in on a little secret. The cheese sauce is not just cheese sauce. We always mixed about 70% nacho cheese sauce with about 30% Pace salsa. That’s what gives this pizza both the cheese but also the tomato and heat. Then make sure you top liberally with both Motz and Cheddar. Otherwise, your recepies are pretty close. Other than self rising dough you pretty much have it down, and let’s be real: No one blames you for not wanting to make crust. It is a process that is both messy and time consuming.Another helpful tip. Wanna make their Taco Pizza? The base is just refried beans and Pace, almost in equal parts.
Reply
FoodHussy says
Thank you so much!!!! The tips are great!!! I’m going to try that with the cheese! I’m going to do the taco pizza soon! Any other tips on the ingredients? Did y’all make the dough or was it pre-made and you just rolled out and baked it?

If you use a pillsbury crust in the tube, would you need to double the ingredients? Thanks
Reply
FoodHussy says
in the recipe – i provide ingredients to make two separate individual pizzas:
On one crust, cover with sausage gravy and top with bacon, 1/2 eggs, 1/2 mozzarella and 1/2 cheddar
On the other crust, cover with cheese sauce, sausage, 1/2 eggs, 1/2 mozzarella and 1/2 cheddarIf you’re using a pillsbury crust in the tube – and making ONE pizza – i would say – pick either cheese sauce or sausage gravy as your base and then top with what you like – and i think one cup of either should cover the whole crust. you could half and half the pizza and keep ingredient amounts as is.
hope that helps

Ok so my family and I moved to Florida about 20 years ago – the thing we miss the most is the Caseys Breakfast pizza – I lived in Saylorville and the kid at the Caseys down the road made THE BEST – his name was Paul and we miss him too. So my oldest boys have challenged me to make it taste just like they remember. So my question is is it just a can of nacho cheese ? any particular brand or is it a mixture of Nacho and velveeta? Also on the gravy – do you use jarred sausage gravy or I make my own homemade ?
Reply
FoodHussy says
The nacho cheese is whatever – canned is fine – i find most of the time caseys uses the gravy. I also have a cheese sauce recipe (it’s linked). The gravy – I make my own – recipe is also linked as well – it takes 10 min and is far better than any premade!

Super delicious. I made my own Greek yogurt crust and gave it a little pre bake. The cheese sauce is a new favorite I will adjust to make Mac for my kids and will absolutely be making this again! We did simple scrambled eggs with the precooked bacon from Costco and sausage on cheese sauce with the cheese on top! So good!!

I feel like this recipe is backwards….unless it’s different throughout all Casey’s. When we get the pizza it is bacon and the cheese on bacon breakfast pizza and then on the sausage pizza it is sausage and the sausage gravy. Just pointing this out for someone who wouldn’t know. I feel like the meat flip flopped would not nearly be as good.Reply
FoodHussy says
You can do it however you like. They even mix it up – it might typically be that – but I’ve seen it different ways.
